Email FAQ

Answers to Email Questions

Can you recommend an email program?

Here are a few suggestions: Thunderbird handles email admirably on both Macintosh and Windows machines. Web browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer also provide email handling. On UNIX systems Thunderbird is a good choice.

How can I send or receive email?

Your server comes with one or more email accounts. The primary account has the same name as your server and is setup along with it. You can specify other accounts' names up to the maximum allowed on you server (more can be purchased). See our support page on email for further details.

How can I get a domain name for my web site?

You will want to check the availability of the domain name you have chosen, then register it with the appropriate registering organization, such as ITWest.com - see our low cost domain name acquisition page.

Can I forward mail sent to my web site (server) to another address?

Readily! See our Email Support page.

Can I have additional email addresses?

Each server comes with one or more email accounts, with their own email addresses. In addition "aliases" can be created, or additional email accounts purchased. See our email support page ***.

What are the Ingoing and Outgoing Email Servers at I T West?

The incoming email (POP) server is mail01.query.net
The outgoing email (SMTP) server is mail01.query.net

What are my e-mail addresses here?

Your primary email address is yourname@yourdomain. Examples:

ruth@easterbrook.com OR sam@booksforsale.com OR violins@orchestra.org.

Depending on the type of server you have, you may have additional email accounts. Each of these was assigned a name at creation. If you have forgotten them, please contact our support department.

How can I have my mail forwarded to another account?

Email forwarding information must be placed in the .forward file in your directory. For more details on how to do this see email forwarding.

What is an Email alias? How do I create one?

This is an alternate name or "alias" for your email address. Mail addressed to the alias will be sent to the real mailbox. For instance, your company may want several common names such as "sales", "billing" to be aliases for a single email account. See the Email Support Page for instructions on setting up and using aliases.

Can I have an autoresponder?

Yes you can. An autoresponder is simply a program associated with your email account which automatically replies to any message received. You are allowed unlimited auto-responders.

How many email accounts come with my server?

This depends on the type of server. Please check our server descriptions.

Can I get extra email accounts?

Yes. More email accounts can be gotten by sending a request to sales@itwest.net. Please see our server descriptions for the number allowed initially with each type of server.

How do I read my server email.

We assume you mean the email that arrives at your server email box. This box is accessed by the same name and password as your server. Instructions for reading and sending server email as well as other options are given on our Email Support Page.
