Your Guide to Registering a Domain Name

There are several ways to have your domain name registered: If it ends in .com, .net or .org then we can do it for you. Or you can do it yourself, by contacting a domain name registrar[DEF] and completing the required information. The guide below will help you do it yourself.

  1. Check Availability

See whether your desired domain name is already taken. If it is, you will need to choose a different name. Keep in mind that names may only contain alphanumeric characters, dashes and periods.

If you have registered your domain previously and now want to use it with one of our servers, see our domain name transfer page.

  2. Notify Us

Now that you have selected an available domain name, you need to notify us of your choice so that we can add it to our nameservers. If you did this when you purchased your server, then skip this step. It is well to do this before your register the name, so that it will be associated with your server. Simply notify our support staff, identifying your server and your domain name.

  3. Select a Registrar

The official organizaton designated to approve registrars maintains a List of Accredited Registrars. The registrar you select will likely require you to complete one or more forms.

    Supply Nameserver Information

  4. Your registrar will likely require you to supply nameserver information as part of the registration process. The nameserver information you were given upon setup of your server will be necessary. Here it is:

    Primary Nameserver:
    Secondary Nameserver:
    NS1.QUERY.NET
    NS2.QUERY.NET

    216.194.123.5
    216.194.123.4

  5. Be Patient

After registering your domain name it will take a little time for the information to be propogated around the internet, perhaps a day or two. Meanwhile you will be able to access your server with any browser by using the IP address we sent to you when the server was set up.

Occasionally there are unresolved questions about this registration process. If so, please Contact Our Support Staff.
