Domain Name Transfer

If you currently have a registered domain name hosted by another provider and wish to use it with a new server of ours the following guidelines will help you transfer the domain name. These easy steps will allow a smooth transition to your new server.

If you have further particular needs or difficulties in transferring your domain name please contact our support staff.

To Transfer a Domain Name to your New Server:

  1. Order

Place an order for your server by means of our order processing system. Supply your existing, registered domain name in the appropriate blank. Pay close attention to the email Server Configuration Notice you receive from us at the time your server is set up. It contains information specific to your server, and necessary in transferring your domain name.

  2. Setup

You can immediately access your newly-configured Server using the IP address (number) provided in your Server Configuration Notice. Upload your site content to your new Server from your current site using any FTP client. Be sure not to delete your old site or discontinue your old service too early (see the steps below). Examine your new site and make sure it is working correctly. Wnen you are sure your new site is working correctly, submit a domain name change request to the domain name registry (see the next step).

  3. Submit Change Request

Now switch the domain name service (DNS) information for your domain name. To do this, contact your domain name registrar (the organization with which your domain name is registered). Carefully request, in the form they specify, to change your Primary and Secondary Name Servers. You will want to use the following Primary and Secondary Name Servers in place of your old ones:

    Primary Nameserver:
    Secondary Nameserver:
    NS1.QUERY.NET
    NS2.QUERY.NET

    216.194.123.5
    216.194.123.4

If your domain name is registered through the interNIC (Network Solutions), using ".com", ".net" or ".org", you can complete the changeover by accessing  their website , and then following their instructions.

To register or change non-InterNIC top-level domains you must contact the appropriate registry organization for their modification request form. The official organizaton designated to approve registrars maintains a List of Accredited Registrars. The registrar you select will likely require you to complete one or more forms.

  4. Wait

It is important to maintain both your previous site and your new site until the transfer has taken place. This necessary "propogation time" may depend on the domain name, but in any case will normally be completed within a few days from the time you completed the preceding step. After this time you may remove your old site. During the propogation period access to your site through your Domain Name may go to either site, depending on the state of propogation. Your new IP address (number) will always access your new site.

  5. Take pleasure!

Your new server should be ready to go. If there are remaining questions please contact our support staff for assistance.
